About K&C

Kayak and Canoe Inc. (K&C), founded in 1990, is a canoe club registered in NSW, Australia, as a not for profit incorporated association. We are an Australian Canoeing (AC) National Training Provider (NTP) licenced to offer and assess AC skill, guide and instructor awards in; flatwater, whitewater and sea.

We have a policy of assisting members to become safe and competent paddlers through progressive canoe education. This starts with a full day introductory course comprising a classroom session covering; clothing, weather, basic navigation, safety, equipment, canoe and kayak design and an on water session covering; getting in and out, paddling - forwards, backwards, stopping, sideways, turning, supports, combing strokes, capsize and recovery. For details see introductory course. It is advisable to complete this course before making any equipment purchases as you will then be in a better position to choose the equipment that will work best for you and is the best value.

Following the introductory course members are encouraged to practice skills using their own equipment or , for a cost recovery fee, club equipment. Once the basics have been mastered and before venturing out on club paddles members must satisfy a Basic Skills Audit.

K&C is involved in many aspects of canoeing. We have a social paddle on the first and third Saturday of the month. Our meeting point is Gibberagong Environmental Centre at Bobbin Head, Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park ( see where to find us ). Paddle distances, instruction and destination are tailored to participate's levels. Meeting times are 9.30am for a 10am start unless otherwise notified. A National Parks Annual Pass is worth considering as National Park entry fees apply.

Many other activities take place on a diversity of waterways from local to international and are advertised in our members e-news email. From time to time we run AC Award courses in flatwater, whitewater and sea up to and including instructor level.

Club members may purchase some useful items of equipment through our retail arm. This equipment has been used by members over a considerable time so we know what works and what is value for money. Purchases are to members only with prices matching retailers i.e we do not undercut the trade. All proceeds are used to fund club equipment and programs. Access to the sale items is through the password protected members area. We demonstrate these items at our introductory course and on club paddles.
