Welcome
Kayak & Canoe is a not-for-profit incorporated canoe club
based at Bobbin Head, Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park on the
northern edge of Sydney, NSW, Australia.
K&C has a policy of assisting members to become safe and
competent paddlers through progressive canoe education with the aim
of making paddling experiences safer and more enjoyable. We believe
that all paddlers should achieve a basic level of competency in
planning and participating in paddling activities. New members work
with our Australian Canoeing certified instructors until basic
competencies have been mastered and the Basic Skills Audit passed. Many club
activities require a successful Audit in order to participate. It
will be reassuring to know that members you are paddling with are
self sufficient and able to assist you or you them if something
should go wrong.
The first step is a full day introductory course usually held at
Bobbin Head on the 1st Saturday of the month subject to a minimum
number of participants and availability of instructors.
Alternatively the course may be delivered through a series of
course modules. K&C provides all equipment.
On-going tuition and experience is provided through our regular
club paddles on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month. Usually
these are held at Bobbin Head but can be at various venues
according to competencies, experience and availability of
instructors.
As an addition to the regular Saturday paddles instructors may,
from time to time, arrange paddles in different venues from local
(e.g. Myall Lakes) to
international (e.g. Venice).
K&C does not hire boats and equipment but new members may
use club boats and equipment to get started. A modest cost recovery
fee applies. Our advice is to put off the purchase of your own
equipment until you have developed some skills and knowledge.
K&C is an Australian Canoeing
(AC) National Training Provider (NTP) and may offer AC
Award Scheme (ACAS) courses and assessment from time to time.
